    • Cumberland Plateau

    Register here!

Rendezvous starts on April 3rd at noon and runs through Sunday, April 6th  There is a lot of excitement and discussion about everyone looking forward to paddling and fellowship at the event at Camp Nakanawa.  We will be offering opportunities on easy to challenge rivers, but always subject to what Mother Nature delivers in terms of rainfall on the free flowing rivers on the Cumberland Plateau in early April!

Rendezvous is TSRA’s family-friendly paddling celebration and annual fundraiser. Paddlers and outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and skill level meet at Camp Nakanawa in Crossville, Tennessee. Then, over the course of five days, groups large and small spill out across the Cumberland Plateau and surrounding areas to tackle their favorite adventures.

The escarpment known as The Appalachian Plateau extends from Maine all the way to central Alabama. Somewhere in the middle is our own Cumberland Plateau, spanning from the brow of Kentucky to just south of Birmingham. We are fortunate to have this paddling treasure just 80 or so miles outside Nashville, and we’re blessed by our relationship with the fine folks at Camp Nakanawa. At an elevation of 2,000 feet, Nakanawa enjoys clean, fresh mountain air. We can’t think of a better place to hold our annual paddling event.

Paddling trips ranging from Class I flatwater to Class IV whitewater are organized and led by experienced trip leaders. But that’s not all! Just steps away from your cabin, beautiful Mayland Lake is available for a relaxing paddle or roll practice. And there are opportunities for hikers, cyclists, shoppers and bird watchers. Scenic areas abound if you prefer a driving tour. And there are rocking chairs galore for just hanging out at the Wigwam.

A silent auction kicks off Friday night. And Saturday is the highly energetic live auction. Both auctions offer ample opportunity to go home with some new and used-but-still-useful gear, handcrafted items, art and more – while supporting TSRA’s mission of conservation, access, education and fun!

This much-anticipated event welcomes new faces as well as old-timers who’ve been attending Rendezvous for 20+ years. They know the ropes and are happy to share their knowledge and expertise.

Start the New Year off right by registering early. This will help ensure your cabin assignment and lets our camp hosts know how much food to prepare. Your registration includes cozy accommodations in the camp’s rustic cabins, weekend breakfast and dinner (if you choose the meal plan), and all weekend activities.

Adult ($75) (members receive $10 discount on adult registration)

    Minor(10-17)($40)

(Up to 9 yr old is free)

    Saturday Only ($43)

Cabin and camping assignments preferences are given based on the date you register.

    1st Saturday Paddle Series

Every 1st Saturday of every month in 2025 you will find us paddling a whitewater river or creek somewhere in Tennessee. We welcome all to join us. We will keep it on natural flow as much as possible. When water gets scarce, we’ll resort to the dam releases at Hiwassee, Ocoee, and Pigeon. Some weekends are predetermined with the assumption there will be enough flow. These will correspond with other events such as Rendezvous (Clear Creek), Jack Lyle Memorial Paddle (Big South Fork), Canoe & Kayak School Follow-up Paddle (Hiwassee). Other trips we will try to predict water levels and update the location approximately 1 - 2 weeks out based off of present water levels and expected rainfall. Just like the water we’ve got to be fluid. Things can change pretty quick.

Expect Class II through Class IV. Don’t rule a paddle out though due to difficulty. Some ratings are based off of 1 or 2 rapids that in many cases can be portaged.  If in doubt, ask us! Just a few rivers you are likely to see:

Ø  Big South Fork (Confluence to Leatherwood Ford) II-IV

Ø  Clear Creek (Jet to Lilly) II+(III)

Ø  Clear Creek (Lilly to Nemo) II-IV

    Ø  Obey, West Fork II

Ø  Tellico (Bridge below Jared's Knee to Ranger Station) II-III

We will occasionally make a weekend out of it and camp close to the river. Not a requirement to paddle but could be an option if you like. We’ll keep you posted when and where we plan to camp. Who knows, if we feel like it, we may do it again on Sunday.

TSRA membership is not required however there will be a $10 registration fee for nonmembers per trip. If you like us and think you will join us again, apply that $10 towards a membership and paddle next time with no registration fee.

Whitewater enthusiasts participate in hazardous activities in wilderness environments. Are you prepared to rescue yourself or your best paddling friend? Are they prepared to rescue you? Help in many cases may not be immediately available, and might be hours (not minutes) away.

Sign up and bring your favorite paddling crew to this clinic. It’s like buying yourself, and them, the safety line that may save your lives.

Led by ACA certified instructors Jim McCool, Woody Woodall, Charlie Wilkerson, Gary Weatherford and James Parnell this course is designed to teach basic swiftwater rescue techniques where limited personnel and/or safety gear is available. Our instructors have in excess of 50 years combined experience teaching whitewater paddling and swiftwater rescue. They’ve provided instruction to hundreds of individuals and many paddling clubs in Tennessee and Kentucky as well as training Tennessee and National Park Service Rangers, firefighters, other first responders and many more.

This clinic will include indoor/outdoor classroom instruction, shore and river skills and realistic scenarios. Successful completion of this course will prepare you to self-rescue and aid in the rescue of others in whitewater environments.

Registration fee includes: tent camping onsite.  Student guests $25/night to camp during the clinic.  There is limited bunk space for an additional cost to those participants seeking indoor space. To book email: Jim McCool at wwseal@yahoo.com. Breakfast and lunch is the responsibility of participants. We will provide dinner on Sat night only.

    • Long Hunter State Park - Couchville Lake

The Lost Loon Triathlon is an untimed, family-friendly triathlon for people to enjoy the outdoors and have fun.  All ages are welcome to participate at their own pace and preferred distance.  The full course is road cycling for 9 miles (3 loops of 3 miles each), tandem canoeing on Couchville Lake for 2 miles and a trial run or walk for 2 miles around the lake.  You can compete in all three sports or divide them up among your teammates like a relay.  Cyclists need to bring their own bikes and bike helmets.  Paddlers can bring their own boat if they have one.  Costumes and team themes are optional but lots of fun!  Volunteers are welcome too.  All proceeds benefit TSRA and river conservation projects.  Follow us on Facebook @lostloontriathlon.  Join the email list at www.lostloons.com for future registration notifications.

On every 3rd Saturday of each month TSRA will be leading a Flatwater to Class 1 paddle trip. Location will be determined a week or two out and updated on the calendar. Basic paddling skills, training and gear are a prerequisite for all registrants. Life Jackets (PFD) will be worn at all times on the water. No alcohol during trip. These trips will all be weather dependent. If conditions are too harsh, we will reschedule as needed.
