Our May recreational kayak classes, Intro to Kayak Fishing, Intro to Kayaking and Intro to Rivers, have also been postponed. The instructors are making plans to reschedule and we will post dates when they are available
A very basic introduction to kayak fishing with time broken up into: instruction on shore, time for paddle strokes/ boat control, and of course some fishing. We will cover the basics a beginning paddler/experienced angler or an experienced paddler/beginning angler would need to feel safe, comfortable, and knowledgeable on the water.
** Fishing Licence Required**
Learn the basics of paddling:

Proper way to transport kayak on a vehicle and carry/launch your boat in the water

Proper paddle strokes and how to maneuver your boat in still or slow moving water

Safety concerns ( proper clothing, 1st aid kits, etc) and self rescues
Learn the basics of choosing gear:

Types of fishing kayaks (advantages and disadvantages)

Types of tackle organization and gear storage
-
Types of tools and accessories to help while fishing and on the water
-
Types of rods and reels (advantages and disadvantages)
-
Types of tackle and lures/bait
Learn the basics of reading water:
-
Reading water for paddling (current, sheltered water, eddys, etc.)

Reading water for fish habitat (finding fish)
Learn the basics of fishing etiquette:
Ability to demo different types of fishing kayaks, demo different types of PFDs specifically designed for fishermen, and try different styles of fishing gear.
The day will consist of early instruction on the shoreline followed by time on the water to work on paddle strokes and of course TIME TO FISH!
What to bring:
Kayak, paddle, PFD
Sunscreen, hat, sunglass,
1 to 2 of your favorite fishing rods along with your favorite fishing lures
Water, snacks, lunch
