TSRA Intro to Rivers will introduce participants to the paddling skills and safety considerations necessary for safely navigating Class I rivers common to Middle Tennessee recreational boaters.
In this all day class, you will be introduced to essentials of river kayaking. Following discussions of river features, safety considerations and equipment, the class will move to the water to develop key skills including basic strokes, maneuvers, self and assisted rescue and river/current reading in a moving water (up to Class 1) environment.
This should NOT be your first time in a boat on the water. Taking an Introduction to Kayaking course is recommended. This course is designed for adults and children who are accompanied by an adult and able to swim and paddle independently. There must be a parent or guardian present with each child under the age of 15 at all times, unless otherwise agreed upon through conversation with instructor.
You must provide your own kayak and equipment! Students who don't own a kayak will need to reserve and pay for their own kayak rental. If you have questions about this class or about boats or other equipment, please contact Andrea White.
- Skirt for kayak (optional)
- *River shoes - no flip flops
- *Water wear - swimsuit, sunguard, etc.
(Upon registration, you will receive a confirmation e-mail with more detailed driving directions.)
If you have any symptoms or Covid exposure that lead you to think that you may be a risk to the other students in the class, please let Andrea White know so that your cancelation can be approved for a full refund.
You will be asked to complete a Health Screening Questionnaire during the week prior to class and masks will be required on land at all times. Class size is being limited to minimize the chances of group exposure. You will be required to sign a waiver to attend this class.
If TSRA has to cancel the class for any reason, you will receive a full refund. If you need to cancel your reservation, we ask that you try to do it with as much advance notice as possible so we can try to fill your seat in the class. Any cancelation provided up to May 31 will automatically receive a full refund. Cancellations after May 31 will need to be approved by Andrea White in order to receive a refund. Please understand that we are just trying to offer training to as many people as possible during very challenging Covid circumstances. Your help is appreciated.
