TSRA Intro to Rivers will introduce participants to the paddling skills and safety considerations necessary for safely navigating Class I rivers common to Middle Tennessee recreational boaters.

In this all day class, you will be introduced to essentials of river kayaking. Following  discussions of river features, safety considerations and equipment, the class will move to the water to develop key skills including basic strokes, maneuvers, self and assisted rescue and river/current reading in a moving water (up to Class 1) environment.

This should NOT be your first time in a boat on the water. Taking an Introduction to Kayaking course is recommended. This course is designed for adults and children who are accompanied by an adult and able to swim and paddle independently. There must be a parent or guardian present with each child under the age of 15 at all times, unless otherwise agreed upon through conversation with instructor.

You must provide your own kayak and equipment! Students who don't own a kayak will need to reserve and pay for their own kayak rental. If you have questions about this class or about boats or other equipment, please contact Andrea White.

If you need to cancel your reservation, we ask that you try to do it with as much advance notice as possible so we can try to fill your seat in the class. Please understand that we are just trying to offer training to as many people as possible during very challenging Covid circumstances. Your help is appreciated.
