Join us Friday on The River for a spring paddle on Mill Creek, the Cumberland River’s longest tributary in Nashville! The Tennessee Scenic Rivers Association has built a total of six non-motorized paddling access sites along Mill Creek and are longtime partner with Metro Nashville Parks & Recreation and the Shelby Bottoms Nature Center.
About the program: Distance <4 miles depending on water levels. A casual paddle along Mill Creek into the Cumberland River where we will take-out at Shelby Park. Along the route, we will gather some litter and park naturalist’s will share information on local flora and fauna, including an active Osprey nest. Mill Creek’s headwaters start in the hills of Nolensville and flow north over numerous limestone bedrock sections, harboring an endemic species of crayfish (federally endangered species) found only in its watershed: the Nashville Crayfish.
The paddle will end at Shelby Park boat ramp (Cumberland River) and feel free to stay for East Nashville Beer works and Friends of Shelby Park's event: Friday's By the River, a pop-up beer garden in the park by the Cumberland River! With yard games, a food truck, and music, these fun events will bring neighbors together and raise money for the Shelby Park & Bottoms.
