Learn the “Basics of Canoeing - Tandem and Solo” From- Trip Planning; Gear; Clothing; Unloading and Loading; Carrying; Parts of a Canoe; Safety; Paddle Strokes and Boat Control; to Self and Assisted Rescue.
Whether you are interested in solo or tandem canoeing, and you have some experience paddling a canoe or none, this will be an awesome course to attend! In this class you will experience and gain knowledge of basic canoe paddling strokes and safety techniques. You will also learn how to transport a canoe safely, in addition to becoming familiar with basic paddling gear. All the information in this course, is taught by experienced American Canoe Association (ACA) Certified Canoe Instructors.
After lunch we will paddle 6 miles on the Stones River from the Dam access to the Mona Access area.
Class will begin at 9:00 a.m. sharp!

We will gather in the grass next to the parking lot until we have everybody. Leave boats on your vehicle until class begins.
Items you will need for the class:
1. Canoe. Tandem (2 seats) or solo (1 seat). I will have solo boats at the class for you to use for the solo portion of the class if you do not have one, or you can paddle your tandem boat from the stern or in reverse.
2. PFD (personal flotation device) – Life Jacket! Must be worn at all times on the water.
3. Paddle. Canoe paddle length should be approximately from the ground to snug under your arm pit.
4. Swim or sports material clothing. No cotton clothing. Dress for a possible swim.
5. Water shoes.
6. Light lunch and drink.
